While we're confident there will be a heavy rain threat, there is little confidence in the exact rainfall totals or where the heaviest rain will fall, and rainfall forecasts will continue to be refined over the coming days. Currently the forecast calls for 3-6" of rain during the Wed-Sun time frame, but there is potential for much higher amounts, with some locations possibly seeing totals of 8-10" of rain.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for portions of southeast LA and coastal MS, mainly along the I-10/12 corridor from 10am through 7pm. Heat indices are expected to reach 110 in the advisory and stay between 103-107 for all other areas. Make sure you take frequent breaks if you're working outside, drink plenty of water, check on others, and bring pets indoors.
There is a medium chance (40 percent) of tropical cyclone development later this week as a disturbance moves westward across the northern Gulf. Regardless of development, this system could bring heavy rain to the area. Now is a good time to review your plans. A few safety tips include: Follow and share info from official sources. Avoid flooded roadways. Monitor the forecast for changes.
