Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall Across the South; Heat Spreads Across the West and Southern Plains

A couple of frontal boundaries will move east and south from the Plains to the Gulf and Atlantic coastlines. These boundaries will focus showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, with scattered severe thunderstorms from the Southern Plains and across the Gulf Coast states. A map highlights a severe weather threat across portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi, and indicates a maximum threat level 1 of 5. The timing of greatest threat is this afternoon into evening. Individual hazard threats are as follows. Wind threat: level 1 of 5. Isolated wind damage from winds 60+ mph. Hail threat: level 1 of 5. Isolated hail quarter size or larger. Tornado threat: minimal. Tornadoes not expected. Flood threat: minimal. Ponding in poor drainage areas. Safety information includes: Stay weather aware.
