...NWS Damage Survey For 11/05/18 Tornado Event...

.OVERVIEW...Severe storms moved through the Mid-South before
midnight on November 5.  The storms produced at least two
tornadoes, which are summarized below.

SURVEY SUMMARY:  The tornado developed in far eastern Pontotoc
County along Lee Line Road. The tornado caused EF-0 and EF-1 damage
to homes and trees west and just north of the Tupelo Airport. The
tornado intensified as it approached Colonial Estates Road, and 
damaged numerous homes in neighborhoods to the east of Colonial
Estates. Two homes had roofs completely removed, and non-brick
exterior walls collapsed on one of these. Several homes had roofs
partially removed.

As the tornado crossed McCullough Blvd., several businesses were
damaged including one which had the roof partially removed. The
tornado moved through neighborhoods near I-22 and Natchez Trace,
snapping/uprooting trees and causing some structural damage. The
tornado weakened slightly as it crossed I-22, where it damaged 
commercial buildings just south of Barnes Crossing Mall. 

The tornado intensified again as it crossed Big Oaks Golf Club and
approached an assisted living center. The tornado caused 
considerable roof damage to the assisted living center. The final
damage from the tornado was observed along County Road 851.

SURVEY SUMMARY:  The tornado developed near the bottoms of
Twentymile Creek. As the tornado approached Highway 371 south
of Kirkville, it uprooted and snapped trees and substantially
damaged a metal garage building. After crossing Highway 371, the
tornado uprooted or snapped numerous trees, and caused minor
damage to several mobile homes. The last damage was observed east
of Ramey Road NE.

EF Scale: The enhanced Fujita scale classifies tornadoes into the 
following categories.

EF0...weak......65 To 85 mph
EF1...weak......86 to 110 mph
EF2...strong....111 to 135 mph
EF3...strong....136 to 165 mph
EF4...violent...166 to 200 mph
EF5...violent...>200 mph
