Above Average Temperatures for the West and Central Plains; Lake Effect Snow Continues

Well above average temperatures will prevail across the Plains and the West Coast this week, while a cold front will bring Arctic air to the South and East Coast Thursday and Friday. NWS Memphis Skywarn Storm Spotter Schedule

Each spring and fall the National Weather Service in Memphis, TN conducts both in-person and virtual Skywarn Storm Spotter training sessions. The class is free and open to the public and typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Registration is only required for the virtual classes.

As of 2025, NWS Memphis has moved to a pod system for the scheduling of spotter classes. The 55 counties in the Mid-South that we serve have been divided into 18 separate pods. Odd-numbered pods will have one class per pod in the fall while even-numbered pods will have one class per pod in the spring. The location of the spotter classes will be coordinated with local emergency management officials. These classes will be open for anyone to attend, regardless of their county of residence. The purpose of the pods is to identify the locations of the spotters class. A map of the pods can be found here.

**Spotter classes that were planned for Fall 2025 have been canceled. We will resume spotter classes in 2026.**
