Experimental Tabular Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Negaunee MI
415 AM EST Sun Nov 23 2025
Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the highest
1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the average of
the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.
.SYNOPSIS...A weakening 29.7 inch low continues tracking southeast from Ontario
towards the St. Lawrence Seaway today. As this occurs, 30.0 inch
ridging returns over Lake Superior and remains until early Monday
morning. A 29.7 inch low pressure then emanates out of the Canadian
Prairies today before bringing 29.8 inch troughing back over Lake
Superior Monday morning. Two 29.7 inch shortwave lows, one digging
through the Northern Plains and the other lifting from the Southern
Plains, phase with each other late Monday night into Tuesday over
the western Great Lakes. As the phased low slowly progresses into
the Upper Great Lakes Tuesday night into Wednesday, expect the low
to deepen to 29.4 inches over Lake Superior by Wednesday. This low
then continues to deepen to around 29.3 inches Wednesday night into
Thanksgiving as it lifts towards northern Quebec. Meanwhile, a 30.5
inch high pressure returns to the Plains on Thanksgiving. This
creates a strong pressure gradient over Lake Superior on
Thanksgiving before the pressure gradient slackens by Friday as the
high pressure moves into the Great Lakes region.
