Overview

Multiple supercells occurred on July 20, 2026 in central Upper Michigan. These storms produced large hail, heavy rain, and wind damage. Public photos and video, drone footage provided by the public and the Delta and Menominee County Sheriff Departments, and on-the-ground storm surveys estimate at least 3 tornadoes occurred. A waterspout was seen making landfall onto Shot Point. No surveyable damage was found and the tornado was rated an EF-U (unknown). A supercell moving through rural central Menominee county produced a swath of damage southeast of Gourley before briefly doing damage to OB Fuller County Park in far southern Delta County. |

Tornadoes

Radar
The top row of images shows the KMQT radar 0.5° Reflectivity (left) and Storm Relative Velocity (right) products as a waterspout was spotted along M-28 before briefly making landfall as a tornado on Shot Point. Since the KMQT radar sits at ~1000 ft above Lake Superior, the 0.5° scan height sampled the waterspout and parent supercell at roughly 1500-2000 ft above the water's surface.
The bottom row of images shows the KMQT radar 0.5° Reflectivity (left) and Storm Relative Velocity (right) products as an EF-1 tornado produced scattered damage from Gourley to OB Fuller County Park. The 0.5° scan height did not sample the tornado directly, but rather the storm's mesocyclone between ~4500-5500 ft above the radar level.
