The below animation of radar (lower left) and GOES-16 infrared (top left) and GOES-16 visible satellite imagery (top right) captured a large prescribed fire over western Marquette County at peak intensity from approximately 315 pm to 4 pm EDT Monday afternoon, May 8th. The MDNR was overseeing the burn of nearly 350 acres over the Volker Plains just south of National Mine. The enhanced colors observed on the GOES-16 infrared imagery revealed the hot spot location of the fire while the radar and visible satellite imagery distinctly showed the smoke plume.
