Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. …Severe Weather Preparedness Campaigns for our Region…

 

As we approach the spring storm season, there is usually an increase in frequency of severe thunderstorms, including

tornadoes, large hail, flash flooding and damaging thunderstorm winds.

 

In preparation for the spring storm season, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah, in conjunction with its partners, will

be holding severe weather safety campaigns for each state served by the NWS Paducah Weather Forecast Office.

 

Below is a list of the dates/times for each state`s campaign and tornado drill:

 

Illinois - March 1-7; No formal Tornado Drill, but part of a weekly test  ("RWT" EAS Code) Tue. March 3 at approx. 10 AM CST

Kentucky - March 1-7; Tornado Drill ("TOR" EAS Code) Wed. March 4 at approx. 9:07 AM CST

Missouri - March 2-6; Tornado Drill ("TOR" EAS Code) Tue. March 3 at approx. 10 AM CST

Indiana - March 15-21; Tornado Drill ("TOR" EAS Code) Wed. March 18 at approx. 9:15 AM CDT
