Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. The National Weather Service office in Paducah, KY will again participate in Skywarn Recognition Day this year. Skywarn Recognition Day is normally the first Saturday in December, and this year is no exception. This is a national event that the Paducah NWS office typically participates in.

The event runs from 00z Saturday (6 P.M. CST Friday)  to 24z (6 P.M. CST) Saturday. Please visit the NWS national Skywarn Recognition Day website for more details.

Notes:

  • The office can be reached on a 2-meter repeater via Echolink. The repeater is the primary repeater used by the Paducah Amateur Radio Association. The repeater call-sign and Echolink node is W4NJA. The frequency is 147.06 MHz with a PL tone of 179.9.
  • The special event call-sign of W4P has been assigned for the NWS Paducah station during this event.
  • The primary HF bands that will be worked through the event are 80, 40, and 20 meters. No digital modes will be worked.
  • No requests for QSL cards please.
