Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
219 PM EDT Mon Jun 1 2026
.DISCUSSION...
A few light showers have moved across parts of the area today,
bringing trace amounts of rainfall, but most locations will
remain dry due to drier air aloft. For Tuesday, rain chances
increase west of the Blue Ridge, with afternoon showers/storms
possible. Rain will not be widespread, nor heavy, as totals will
likely stay under a tenth of an inch. MinRH will remain above 30%
through tomorrow, though winds stay slightly elevated, up to 10
mph and gusts up to 20 mph tomorrow across the Piedmont.
Dry weather persists as high pressure dominates the weather pattern
beginning Wednesday and lasting through at least Saturday, with no
chance of rain. MinRH values do fall into the teens and 20-30% range
late week for the Piedmont, as temperatures rise to the 90s by Friday,
which could cause a slight increase in fire danger. However, winds will
remain light. For the weekend, southerly flow will allow moisture to
increase across the area, causing MinRH values to rise back to 30-50%.
Winds continue to remain light through the weekend.
