Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
238 AM EDT Tue May 19 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Prior to this moisture entering the area, hot and dry conditions
areawide will lead to minimum RH values mainly falling into the
20s/30s on today, with an increase mainly for the mountains by
Wednesday as a cold front arrives and advects
moisture north. Overall, with winds remaining mainly under 12
mph, the fire weather concerns look to remain low for much of the
area at this time even though conditions will be hot and dry
early this week. Several days of rainfall look to occur across the
region starting Wednesday, which will be beneficial for the area.
Depending on the amount of rainfall over this period, drought
conditions may improve slightly, reducing the overall fire
weather threat across the area as we head into summer.
