Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
123 PM EDT Sun Apr 5 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Widespread wetting rain has occurred across the region today,
with widespread rainfall totals of 0.4" to up to 1.0". This new
rainfall should mitigate the dry airmass and any fire weather
concerns across the area that will return to the region on Monday.
Near seasonal temperatures forecast through much of the coming
week; however, a reinforcing shot of cold air looks to bring below
average temperatures to the region Tuesday and Wednesday. Minimum
RH values will drop into the 20-30% range each day next week
starting on Monday and continuing through Wednesday, with gusty
winds on Monday and Tuesday up to 20mph forecast. Southerly winds
return to the area Thursday and Friday, which will also return
some moisture back into the region subsequently increasing minimum
RH values areawide, which should help mitigate some fire weather
concerns by the end of the week.
