Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
230 AM EDT Sun May 10 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Will have two opportunities for showers into next week. One
system brings showers in late Sunday into early Monday, with
another Wednesday. However, rainfall amounts from both these
systems will not be a lot, but some wetting rains can be
expected. Between a tenth to a third of an inch for the mountains
through Monday, and a tenth of a inch or less for the foothills
and Piedmont.

Temperatures will drop below normal early next week, then
moderate to normal. Winds will gust in the 20 to 25 knot range
Wednesday and Thursday, moreso for the mountains. During the
second half of this work week, minimum RH's will generally be
between 20% to 35%, and above 40% for the mountains, as high
pressure settles in over the area. However, with the forecast
rainfall, there are no fire weather concerns at this time.
