.DISCUSSION...

Isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening,
some of which could be severe. Plentiful moisture will remain across
the area through Friday as a cold front moves into the area, causing
more widespread thunderstorms and a better chance of severe weather.
Winds will be from the southwest today around 5-10 mph, but shift to
the west by tomorrow increasing to 10-15 mph, with gusts of 20-25+ mph
expected in the mountains, with slightly lighter winds for the
Piedmont. Any thunderstorms would contain much higher wind gusts.
Temperatures remain above normal, with highs in the 80s/90s, with
heat indices near to just over 100 degrees in the Piedmont.

The front pushes through for Saturday, with much drier air in place
north of the NC/VA border. MinRH values will drop to around 30% for
Saturday, slowly rebounding into early next week as storm chances
return. Winds reduce to under 5 mph. Above normal temperatures will
continue, with highs in the 80s/90s through the weekend.
