Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
211 PM EDT Tue May 19 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Hot and dry conditions continue until Wednesday afternoon, when the
arrivial and passage of a cold front will trigger showers and some
thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours. Relative
humidity values will fall into the 20% to 30% range areawide today,
and then 20% to 30% in the Piedmont, but 40% to 50% in parts of
southeast WV and far southwest VA for Wednesday. After that, RH will
remain high through the end of the week and into the weekend as
moisture and precipitation chances linger. Forecast rainfall amounts
through Friday rain from half an inch to an inch, which will be
beneficial for the area, and may lead to some improvements in the
ongoing dryness, and thus could reduce the overall fire weather
threat across the area heading into the warmer months.
