Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
255 PM EDT Wed Apr 1 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Showers and thunderstorms are expected today, along and west of
the Blue Ridge, as well as north of Interstate 64, where storms
look to be more organized. Primary hazard with storms today are
damaging winds and hail. Convective activity will wind down
tonight.

High pressure will be centered just offshore of the Mid- Atlantic
coast the next several days, and clockwise flow around the high
will result in southwest winds. This pattern will favor warm
weather for the rest of the week along with some increasing
moisture. Dewpoints will trend up resulting in higher minimum
relative humidity along with periodic cloud cover and a chance of
mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. The
precipitation is expected to be scattered and mainly confined to
the mountains.
