Preparations to replace the generator serving a portion of the NOAA Campus at Sandpoint, including NWS Seattle, will result in two separate power outages on Wednesday, December 4th, 2019. Each outage will be 1-2 hours in length. Each outage will require a complete shutdown of the operational systems at NWS Seattle. Data and communications availability will be impacted during these outages.
Approximately 1-2 hours during the 0500-0800 PST time window
Approximately 1-2 hours during the 1100-1800 PST time window
Radar data from Camano Island (KATX) and Langley Hill (KLGX) will not be processed or disseminated.
Surface weather observations (ASOS METAR data from local airports) disseminated via NWS pathways may not be disseminated. Observations disseminated via FAA and DOD pathways will work as usual.
NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts will cease for the duration of each outage.
Select NWS Seattle phone lines will be forwarded to NWS Portland who will be providing service backup during the outages. To reach a forecaster, please call 206-526-6095. NWS Seattle will continue to monitor and disseminate information as normal via social media and email during the outages.
The primary computer systems at NWS Seattle will be shut down during each outage. NWS Portland & NWS Medford will provide service backup of forecast & warning products during the outages.
