KATX (Seattle/Camano Island) will be offline for approximately 2 weeks (starting 09/26/2019) as the 3rd phase of the Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) is being completed. The Service Life Extension Program is a 5 year program that replaces and refurbishes major components of the more than 20 year old WSR-88Ds. This will keep our radars operational into the 2030s. In this phase, the transmitter pedestal, one of the most critical parts of the radar, will be refurbished. The pedestal components are extremely heavy and will require the removal of the radome by crane.

The outage is expected to last until October 11th. During this time, the KLGX (WA Coastal Radar) will remain operational.
