Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. The chance for rain will continue through this evening. Locations in central and north-central Montana will experience more widespread rain with a chance for higher amounts, particularly along the Rocky Mountain Front and along the Highway 200 corridor. Locations in southwest Montana will experience more of a potential for thunderstorm activity in the afternoon and more isolated chances for higher amounts.
There will be a chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, especially along the Idaho and Wyoming border. The main concerns will be gusty winds as well as lightning.
