Severe Thunderstorms and Flooding from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes; Record Heat in the East

Widely scattered severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, hail, and flash flooding from the southern Plains into the lower Great Lakes. Elevated to locally critical fire weather conditions will persist across portions of the Southwest and Southern High Plains due to gusty winds and dry conditions. October 2008

  • On October 28, McAlester set a record low minimum temperature 24 deg F and a record low mean temperature of 43 deg F set on 10/28. This was also the earliest occurrence of 24 deg F.
  • Both Fort Smith and Tulsa had the last freeze of the spring and first freeze of the fall on the same dates this year: April 14 and October 28.
  • No river flooding occurred this month.
  • Tulsa has dropped to the 5th wettest year so far (Jan. 1-Oct. 31) with 52.36".
  • Fort Smith is the 3rd wettest year so far (Jan. 1-Oct. 31) with 55.92".
