Note: Grand Island records date back to Oct. 1895, and are based on the official NCEI ThreadEx database, which "threaded together" observations from various historical Grand Island weather stations to create one, unified record. For the past several decades, official Grand Island observations have originated from the automated sensor (ASOS) at Central Nebraska Regional Airport.

Note: Unfortunately, Hastings records are not as "straightforward" as those for Grand Island, as Hastings is not an official NCEI ThreadEx site and includes more instances of missing data over the years. As a result, NWS Hastings has undertaken its own "local threading" project to meld together older, historical weather observations from NWS cooperative observer stations with newer data from the ASOS at Hastings Municipal Airport in order to create one record database. The following explains the data sources used for Hastings records:

- Temperatures: With little exception (mainly due to missing data), Hastings temperature records are based on NWS cooperative observer reports from May 1907-June 1996, with records since July 1996 derived from the automated sensor (ASOS) at Hastings Municipal Airport.

- Precipitation/Snowfall: With only limited exception (mainly due to missing or errant data), Hastings precipitation records are based on NWS cooperative observer reports from Dec.1894-March 1998, with records since April 1998 derived from the automated sensor (ASOS) at Hastings Municipal Airport. All official Hastings snowfall measurements since winter 1993-94 have been taken at the NWS Office (located 4 miles north of downtown).
