Warm temperatures today in the upper 70s to mid 80s with a chance for additional thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening across the Rolling Plains and far southeast Texas Panhandle. Breezy and dry conditions west of the dryline will result in elevated to critical fire weather concerns along the Caprock.
Thunderstorms are expected over the Rolling Plains and far southeast Texas Panhandle late this afternoon through late this evening. Main threats include large hail up to baseball size and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. Tornadoes are also possible. More thunderstorms are expected over the same area late this evening into early Sunday morning.
Dry and breezy conditions will give way to elevated to critical fire weather concerns along and west of the I-27 corridor. Relative humidity values will be as low as 12 percent with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph possible. Avoid activities that may cause a spark or flame.

1981: Extensive damage to vehicles and camper bodies occurred in Plains late this evening as a slow-moving thunderstorm
drifted east-northeast. Strong winds accompanied the hail that at times reached the size of golf balls. This same storm
later produced a cluster of funnels northeast of the city.
