Volunteer opportunity for students to work with real Meteorologists 

Are you hoping to one day work with the National Weather Service (NWS)? Would you like to see what a career at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the NWS actually looks like from the inside?

The NWS is now accepting applications from the University of California-Davis for its 2026-2027 Student Career On-Site Training program, or SCOuT. UC-Davis is one of only 23 universities nationwide invited to apply.

SCOuT is an unpaid, volunteer program that pairs selected students with an NWS mentor. During the spring 2027 semester, students job shadow at NOAA and NWS facilities across the region, getting first-hand exposure to the operational side of meteorology.

Selected students will be notified before the end of the fall semester so paperwork, introductions and shadowing dates can be set ahead of the spring 2027 semester.
