Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. NWS Amarillo offers a winter weather SKYWARN spotter training class during the months of November and December(sometimes in January if needed). These classes are different than the spring severe weather SKYWARN classes and are also hosted virtually(no in person classes, unless requested). 

 

Topics covered in winter spotter training classes:

  • Types of winter precipitation we get in the Panhandles
  • Criteria for the various winter precipitation and cold weather watches and warnings
  • Past winter weather events
  • Winter and cold weather safety
  • How to measure and report snow and ice to the National Weather Service

All classes are free, but you do have to register for the webinar!
