Severe Weather and Heavy Rain for the Plains and Mid-Atlantic; Building Heat in the West

Severe thunderstorms will remain possible in the Mid-Atlantic through Tuesday. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain will also be possible in the central/southern Plains on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hazardous heat will linger across the southern U.S. and build across the West through mid-week. NWS Amarillo offers a winter weather SKYWARN spotter training class during the months of November and December(sometimes in January if needed). These classes are different than the spring severe weather SKYWARN classes and are also hosted virtually(no in person classes, unless requested). 

 

Topics covered in winter spotter training classes:

  • Types of winter precipitation we get in the Panhandles
  • Criteria for the various winter precipitation and cold weather watches and warnings
  • Past winter weather events
  • Winter and cold weather safety
  • How to measure and report snow and ice to the National Weather Service

All classes are free, but you do have to register for the webinar!
