Tuscaloosa County Tornado - March 1, 2007

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed storm damage in northern Tuscaloosa County. It has been determined that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with estimated maximum winds of 105 mph.

A tornado touched down about 2 miles northwest of Samantha, in northern Tuscaloosa County. This touch down was near the intersection of Lesueur Road and Nazareth Church Road. The tornado tracked northeastward, crossed US Highway 43, and lifted near the intersection John Swindle Road and Joe Namath Road. Numerous trees were either snapped or uprooted along the path. One brick home lost a portion of its roof. The tornado damage path was approximately 3.5 miles long and was 100 yards wide at its widest point. The tornado was on the ground from 300 PM CST until 305 PM CST. A Tornado Warning was in effect for Tuscaloosa County from 248 PM CST valid until 315 PM CST. All of central Alabama was outlooked for a High Risk of Severe Thunderstorms including the chance of violent tornadoes. A Tornado Watch was valid from 730 AM CST until 8 PM CST.
