Winston - Cullman County Tornado - March 1, 2007

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed storm damage near Arley. It has been determined that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with estimated maximum winds of 110-115 mph.
The tornado touched down near the intersection of County Road 41 and County Road 62, about 2 miles north of Arley. The tornado tracked northeastward, crossed Smith Lake, crossed County Road 77, and lifted just into Cullman County north of County Road 141. Several homes and barns were damaged along the path. One chicken house was totally destroyed and two others sustained major damage. Numerous trees were either uprooted or were snapped off. The tornado damage path was approximately 9.7 miles long and 100 yards wide at its widest point. The tornado was on the ground from 345 PM CST until 357 PM CST. A Tornado Warning was in effect for Winston County from 318 PM CST valid until 400 PM CST. All of central Alabama was outlooked for a High Risk of Severe Thunderstorms including the chance of violent tornadoes. A Tornado Watch was valid from 730 AM CST until 8 PM CST.
