A National Weather Service Damage Assessment Team has surveyed the storm damage in Russell County. It has been determined the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Damage estimates were consistent with winds around 90 mph.

An EF-1 tornado briefly touched down near the Phenix City Drag Strip...along County Road 28. Most of the damage from the tornado was at the Country Cottages Mobile Home Park...where two minor injuries occurred. A couple dozen trees were snapped and uprooted in the area. The damage path was just under one mile long and 50 yards wide.
