Excessive Rainfall and Tropical Storm in the South; Severe Thunderstorms in the Midwest

Excessive rainfall may produce considerable, potentially life-threatening, flooding across the lower Mississippi River Valley and central Great Lakes region through tonight. Tropical Storm Arthur will move northeastward along the Texas coast today and then move inland over southwestern Louisiana by tonight. Periods of heavy snow over the past 7 days have created vast amounts of snowfall in the mountains.  Some places have likely received over 100 inches in remote areas of the mountains.  Numerous avalanches have also occurred with portions of I-70 and other roads being closed at times.  According to CAIC some of these avalanches have been 100 Year Events.
