Severe Weather and Flooding Threats for the Central U.S.; Dangerous Heat in the Southern and Western U.S.

Severe weather and flooding threats will continue for portions of the central U.S. over the next couple of days, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms expected. Dangerous heat will persist across the southern and western U.S. through mid-week. Overview

Enter summary/what happened:Compact, Intense Storm. Storm track initially too far North for heavy snow in I-25 Corridor, but trended South the day before the event. Tracked from near 4 Corners to ALS, PUB, and CO/NE/KS triple point. Resulted in heavy snowfall along Front Range and most of Northeast Plains.

Snowfall Totals Summary ( See map to the right)

  • 8-11 inches over most of I-25 corridor and Foothills.
  • 14-15 inches over the Palmer Divide.
  • 3-8 inches over most of the Northeast Plains. Considerable blowing/drifting snow but no blizzard.

Impacts Summary: 

  • Numerous school closures,
  • CU canceled some final exams.
  • Over 270 flight cancellations with more than 3 hour delays for arriving flights.
