Rain Coming to Drought-Stricken Southern U.S.

A storm tracking across the Southern U.S. will bring heavy to excessive rainfall over portions of west-central Texas into tonight then from central Texas through the central Gulf Coast on Friday. The Southeast U.S. will see heavier rain Saturday. While much of this rainfall will be beneficial to the drought, excessive rainfall may bring areas of flash and urban flooding. Read More >

449 PM EDT THU MAY 2 2002

...TORNADO IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY...

A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN NORTH CENTRAL FAIRFIELD COUNTY NEAR THE
TOWN OF BALTIMORE AT APPROXIMATELY 1247 AM.  THE TORNADO TOPPED OFF
SOME TREES AND KNOCKED DOWN A FEW POWER POLES. CURRENT INDICATIONS
ARE THAT THE TORNADO WAS AN F0 (40 TO 72 MPH).

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
AT 1231 AM FOR FAIRFIELD COUNTY...WHICH WAS UPGRADED TO A TORNADO
WARNING SHORTLY AFTERWARDS.
