Hurricane Erin Moving Away from the North Carolina Coast, Dangerous Surf & Rip Currents Continue; Hazardous Heat out West

Straight-Line Wind Damage in Butler County

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH

...STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE IN EASTERN BUTLER COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS DETERMINED THAT 
DAMAGE IN MONROE IN EASTERN BUTLER COUNTY WAS CAUSED BY STRAIGHT 
LINE WINDS WEDNESDAY EVENING...JUNE 4 BETWEEN 635 PM AND 645 PM. THE 
MAJORITY OF THE DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO THE COUNTRY ESTATES 
NEIGHBORHOOD OFF CINCINNATI-DAYTON ROAD. NUMEROUS TREES WERE 
DOWNED...AND MANY WERE UPROOTED. SEVERAL HOMES HAD SECTIONS OF 
SIDING REMOVED ALONG WITH MINOR CHIMNEY DAMAGE. A FEW FENCES WERE 
ALSO BLOWN OVER. MANY RESIDENTS INTERVIEWED INDICATED THAT THE HIGH 
WINDS WERE SUSTAINED FOR BETTER THAN FIVE MINUTES.

DAMAGE EXTENDED ALONG A MILE PATH THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND WAS 
ABOUT ONE HALF MILE IN WIDTH. HIGHEST WINDS WERE ESTIMATED TO BE 
APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH.
