Straight-Line Wind Damage & A Tornado in Hamilton County

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH

...WEAK TORNADO AND STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE CONFIRMED IN EASTERN 
HAMILTON COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS DETERMINED THAT 
DAMAGE IN NEWTOWN IN EASTERN HAMILTON COUNTY WAS CAUSED BY A WEAK 
TORNADO ON WEDNESDAY MORNING...JUNE 4 BETWEEN 745 AND 750 AM. THE 
DAMAGE PATH WAS BROKEN ACROSS THE WEST SIDE OF NEWTOWN...SUGGESTING 
THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN BRIEFLY A FEW TIMES. NUMEROUS TREES WERE 
EITHER BROKEN OFF OR UPROOTED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE LITTLE MIAMI 
RIVER TO THE NORTHWEST OF CLEAR CREEK PARK. THE MAJORITY OF THE 
DAMAGE WAS CENTERED ALONG BOTH SIDES OF STATE ROUTE 32 NEAR THE 
INTERSECTION OF TURPIN LANE. SEVERAL METAL AWNINGS AT A BUSINESS ON 
THE NORTH SIDE OF ROUTE 32 WERE THROWN ACROSS THE ROAD AND LANDED IN 
THE PARKING LOT OF A NURSERY ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF ROUTE 32. 
ADDITIONAL DAMAGE AT THE NURSERY INCLUDED A PORTABLE TOILET BEING 
THROWN OVER A CEMENT SOIL BIN AND LANDING IN THE PARKING LOT AT A 
RIGHT ANGLE TO ITS ORIGINAL LOCATION. THE OWNER OF THE NURSERY WAS 
LOCATED IN A TRUCK IN AN ADJACENT FIELD AND WITNESSED ROTATION IN 
THE CLOUDS AND THE TORNADO BRIEFLY TOUCHING DOWN. HE ALSO INDICATED 
THAT HIS TRUCK WAS SHIFTED SIDEWAYS SLIGHTLY BY THE WINDS. 
ADDITIONAL TREE DAMAGE OCCURRED IN MOUND VIEW PARK TO THE SOUTHEAST 
OF THE NURSERY.  A BROKEN DAMAGE PATH EXTENDED ABOUT 1.5 MILES 
THROUGH THIS AREA. THIS TORNADO HAS BEEN RATED AN EF0 ON THE 
ENHANCED FUJITA SCALE WITH WIND SPEEDS ESTIMATED BETWEEN 70 AND 75 
MPH.

ADDITIONAL DAMAGE IN HYDE PARK FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING...JUNE 4 WAS 
FOUND TO BE CAUSED BY STRAIGHT LINE WINDS. A FEW LARGE TREES WERE 
UPROOTED WITH BRANCHES BROKEN OFF ALONG ERIE AVENUE JUST WEST OF THE 
INTERSECTION WITH DELTA AVENUE. JUST EAST OF THIS AREA...NUMEROUS 
TREES WERE UPROOTED IN AULT PARK. THE WIND SPEEDS WERE ESTIMATED TO 
BE AROUND 65 MPH.
