THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED A MICROBURST 3 MILES 
NORTHWEST OF DARBYVILLE IN PICKAWAY COUNTY. 

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE...IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PICKAWAY 
COUNTY EMA OFFICE AND LOCAL MEDIA CONDUCTED GROUND AND AERIAL 
SURVEYS ALONG LONDON ROAD NEAR THE INTERSECTION WITH DARBY CREEK 
ROAD. SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THREE BARNS AND A HOME OCCURRED AT A 
PROPERTY LOCATED ON THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE INTERSECTION OF 
LONDON AND DARBY CREEK ROADS.  THE HOME SUSTAINED ROOF AND GUTTER 
DAMAGE.  SEVERE SIDING DAMAGE ALSO WAS NOTED...LIKELY CAUSED BY TWO 
INCH DIAMETER HAIL.  A TRAILER WAS MOVED A SHORT DISTANCE TO THE 
SOUTHEAST ON THE PROPERTY AS WELL.  DEBRIS WAS CARRIED INTO AN 
ADJACENT FIELD ON THE OTHER SIDE OF DARBY CREEK ROAD.  ADDITIONAL 
ROOF AND SIDING DAMAGE TO TWO HOMES OCCURRED TO THE NORTHEAST OF 
THIS PROPERTY ALONG DARBY CREEK ROAD DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS AND 
LARGE HAIL.  DEBRIS FROM THE TWO HOMES WAS CARRIED SEVERAL HUNDRED 
FEET TO THE SOUTHEAST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF DARBY CREEK ROAD. 
NUMEROUS TREES WERE SNAPPED IN THE VICINITY OF THESE DAMAGED 
STRUCTURES ALONG LONDON ROAD. THIS DAMAGE SWATH IS CONSISTENT WITH A 
LOCALIZED MICROBURST...EXTENDING AROUND 0.4 MILES LENGTH AND ABOUT 
350 YARDS IN WIDTH. 

A MICROBURST IS CLASSIFIED AS AN OUTRUSH OF DAMAGING WINDS FROM THE 
DOWNDRAFT PORTION OF A THUNDERSTORM.  DAMAGE OFTEN FANS OUT FROM THE 
POINT OF ORIGIN...OFTEN IN A STARBURST PATTERN.  WIND SPEEDS WITHIN 
A MICROBURST CAN BE COMPARABLE TO A WEAK TORNADO.
