THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED A MICROBURST 1 MILE EAST 
OF STOUTSVILLE IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY. 

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A DAMAGE SURVEY NEAR A 
PROPERTY ALONG OAKLAND STOUTSVILLE ROAD JUST EAST OF DOZER ROAD. 
THE ONLY DAMAGE ON THE PROPERTY WAS TO A SMALL METAL SHED ALONG A 
FENCE LINE.  THE SHED WAS RIPPED OFF ITS WOODEN FOUNDATION AND 
THROWN OVER TOP OF THE ADJACENT FENCE.  DAMAGE WAS MORE EXTENSIVE TO 
AN ADJACENT WHEAT FIELD DIRECTLY BEHIND THE PROPERTY.  SEVERAL AREAS 
WITHIN THE WHEAT FIELD WERE BLOWN DOWN IN A NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST 
DIRECTION...FANNING OUT FROM THE ORIGIN.  THIS DAMAGE SWATH IS 
CONSISTENT WITH A LOCALIZED MICROBURST...EXTENDING OVER ABOUT A 
QUARTER MILE WIDTH AND LENGTH THROUGH THE WHEAT FIELD. 

A MICROBURST IS CLASSIFIED AS AN OUTRUSH OF DAMAGING WINDS FROM THE 
DOWNDRAFT PORTION OF A THUNDERSTORM.  DAMAGE OFTEN FANS OUT FROM THE 
POINT OF ORIGIN...OFTEN IN A STARBURST PATTERN.  WIND SPEEDS WITHIN 
A MICROBURST CAN BE COMPARABLE TO A WEAK TORNADO.
