...Non-Tornadic Damage Found in Boone...Kenton...and Gallatin
Counties in Northern Kentucky and Switzerland County in southeast
Indiana ...

A damage survey completed today across many locations in
Boone...Kenton...and Gallatin counties in northern Kentucky found
that damage was the result of non-tornadic, or straightline winds.

The survey included many areas across these counties...but focused
on the Bethel Ridge Road area of Switzerland County...much of
central Boone County...much of central Kenton County...and
much of Gallatin County.

The survey revealed multiple swaths of enhanced thunderstorm wind
damage...with damage patterns consistent of non-tornadic winds.
Much of this damage was to home and business roofing and
widespread tree damage. All damage surveyed displayed non-
convergent patterns indicative of straightline winds.

Damage was consistent with wind speeds of 65 to 85 mph in all
surveyed areas...with many hardwood and softwood trees snapped or
uprooted. Most roof damage consisted of roofing material fully or
partially removed...and a few barns and outbuildings were
completely destroyed which is consistent with winds in this range.

The National Weather Service would like to thank the support and
assistance provided by the Boone County Emergency Management...the
Kenton County Emergency Management...the Gallatin County Emergency
Management...and the Switzerland County Emergency Management.
