Heavy Great Lakes Snow through Friday; Extreme Cold and Potential for Major Winter Storm Late Week into this Weekend

Multiple clipper systems will bring cold temperatures and enhance lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures accompanied with gusty winds that may lead to dangerous wind chills beginning in the Northern Plains Thursday before expanding to the South and East. Severe Weather & Heavy Rain/Flooding


A strong mesoscale convective system (MCS) tracked through the southern Ohio Valley during the evening hours on the 17th into the early morning hours on the 18th. Strong straight-line winds resulted in numerous reports of trees downed across the southern part of Ohio and northern Kentucky. Additionally, very heavy rain rates resulted in renewed flooding and flash flooding, continuing the stretch of very wet weather across much of the Ohio Valley.
