Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. ...STRAIGHT LINE WINDS CONFIRMED IN HIGHLAND COUNTY ON
APRIL 8TH 2020......

With support and assistance from Highland County Emergency Management, the
National Weather Service confirms that straight line / non-tornadic winds
were responsible for the widespread tree and minor structure damage seen
to the northwest of Hillsboro, and in other portions of the county
on April 8th, 2020. Widespread winds of 70-80 mph were seen
across much of the county, leading to numerous trees being
uprooted or broken off, as well as minor damage to some homes and
outbuildings.

The blue polygon below depicts the area where straight line wind damage was most heavily concentrated in Highland County. Scattered wind damage was also observed in other parts of the county.
