Heavy Great Lakes Snow through Friday; Extreme Cold and Potential for Major Winter Storm Late Week into this Weekend

Multiple clipper systems will bring cold temperatures and enhance lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures accompanied with gusty winds that may lead to dangerous wind chills beginning in the Northern Plains Thursday before expanding to the South and East. Freezing Rain/Ice

During the late evening hours on February 24th into the early morning hours on February 25th, a solid shield of precipitation moved through the region. With surface air temperatures still below freezing for many locations near/north of I-70, this precipitation fell as freezing rain, accreting on all surfaces, especially elevated ones such as trees and powerlines. Further south, it was just warm enough to be just plain rain.
