Straight Line Wind Damage in Logan County, Ohio

The National Weather Service has confirmed damaging straight line
winds of 70-80 mph were responsible for the damage observed at 
the Benjamin Local Schools property and surrounding areas near and
along State Route 47.

There was minor tree damage observed at several locations across
the property of Benjamin Logan Local Schools as well as some roof
damage along a flat portion of one of the school buildings. 
Several light poles were either bent or broken on the property, 
including at the football stadium. Several very small outbuildings
on the grounds of the field/stadium complex were moved from their
original locations, including one which was anchored to a cement 
slab. Further east of the stadium, a school bus was overturned, 
with some minor tree damage observed in this vicinity as well. 
Further east of this tree line, some structural damage, including 
partial removal of sheet metal roofing, was observed to two 
outbuildings at the Benjamin Local Schools Land Lab. Sheet metal 
roofing and siding from these structures was strewn across the 
field downwind and into a wooded area. Several instances of 
extensive tree damage was observed in this wooded area east of the
school, with a few hardwoods snapped near their bases. 

Further to the east along State Route 47 closer to County Road 12,
additional areas of tree damage, with several snapped trees, was 
observed near a property that sustained minor siding and garage 
door damage. On the other side of County Road 12, along State
Route 47, several other properties sustained some tree damage,
including trees downed into a pond. An outbuilding in this
vicinity also sustained some sheet metal roof and siding damage. 

The National Weather Service would like to thank the Logan County
Emergency Management Agency, officials from Benjamin Logan Local 
Schools, and Bokescreek Township Fire Department for their 
assistance with this damage survey.
