August 4 update: A concentrated area of damage in southeast 
Franklin County was determined to be near 90 MPH, which is now 
within EF1 tornado strength.

Survey Summary:
The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF1 tornado in
northern Dearborn and southeast Franklin Counties in Indiana. This
tornado occurred during the early evening of August 1, 2026. Most
of the damage was consistent with EF0 intensity, but a clustered
area of damage in southeast Franklin County reached EF1 strength. 

Damage was first observed just east of Lawrenceville, Indiana 
along Batta Road, near the Batta and Legion Road intersection. 
Some roof damage to farm buildings was observed, as well as a 
large farm wagon overturned. The tornado appeared to cross over 
farm fields where crops were flattened. The tornado then crossed 
Legion Road where there were several large trees that were 
damaged or snapped. Peak wind in this area was estimated to be 
near 70 MPH.

The tornado continued north-northeast and continued to 
produce tree damage as well as garage door damage along 
Trackville Road just north of Old Hickory Road. Peak wind in this
area was estimated to be between 70 and 75 MPH. 

The tornado continued into southeast Franklin County, where it 
strengthened slightly to produce roof damage to a single family 
home as well as roof and wall damage to barns. Peak wind in this 
area was estimated to be between 75 and 80 MPH. 

The tornado continued north-northeast to properties just 
northwest of the intersection of Saint Peters and Stone Roads. 
There was additional roof damage to a single family home, as well
as the destruction of 3 barns, and some snapped pine trees and 
hardwood tree damage. It was in this area where the peak wind was
updated to near 90 MPH or EF1 damage.

The tornado continued to move north-northeast along a narrow path
through southeast Franklin County, producing additional barn and 
tree damage along Wewe Hill Road which was consistent with wind 
damage between 70 and 75 MPH. The tornado is believed to have 
dissipated just north of where Wewe Hill Road becomes West to 
East, about 2 miles southwest of Cedar Grove. The National 
Weather Service would like to thank the emergency management 
agencies in Dearborn and Franklin Counties for their assistance 
in this damage survey.
