 Details:

  1. 5/14/1961:  This was part of a family of small tornadoes that affected west central Illinois.  This particular tornado was on the ground for 17 miles in Knox County, causing much of its damage in the county near Douglas (about 4 miles west of Yates City).  A home collapsed into a basement, injuring 5 people.  19 homes and 2 stores were damaged in the area.
  2. 7/21/1961:  This tornado touched down just east of St. Augustine, and moved northeast to just north of Macomb.  Contact with the ground after that was rather intermittent for another 50 miles.
  3. 3/31/1967:  This tornado took an intermittent path from near Middle Grove in far northern Fulton County, to about 1 mile east of Douglas. 
  4. 5/7/1967:  This tornado touched down in Galesburg, and was on the ground for about a mile.  Damage was estimated at $250,000.
  5. 7/17/1968:  Touched down in Warren County, then moved eastward across the Galesburg airport before lifting on the eastern edge of the airfield.
  6. 7/17/1972:  Brief tornado touchdowns were reported along a track across far southern Knox County, from Little Swan Lake in southeast Warren County, to near Elmwood in far western Peoria County. 
  7. 6/14/1974:  This tornado took an erratic, skipping path across Rock Island, Mercer, and northern Knox Counties.  In Knox County, the main damage path extended from 7 miles north of Abingdon to 10 miles south of Abingdon.  In Abingdon, approximately 200 homes were damaged or destroyed, with damages estimated at greater than $2 million. 
  8. 6/20/1974:  Brief touchdown between Rio and Oneida.
  9. 6/20/1974:  Brief touchdown near Victoria, no damage reported.
  10. 6/20/1974:  Brief touchdown in East Galesburg; no damage reported.
  11. 6/20/1974:  Brief touchdown 1 mile north of St. Augustine; no damage reported.
  12. 3/23/1975:  Brief touchdown 1 mile southwest of Altona, destroying a house, which caught fire and burned.  The elderly couple inside the house was hospitalized.
  13. 3/4/1976:  Moved through the west central portion of Victoria around 5:45 pm.  Eight buildings were damaged, and a metal shed was destroyed.  Minor damage was reported to some houses and garages.
  14. 7/6/1987:  Brief touchdown at I-74 and county highway 19, causing $1500 damage to a grain bin.
  15. 5/13/1995:  Touched down 1 mile north of St. Augustine and moved northeast 14 miles, lifting 1 mile northeast of Maquon.  18 homes were damaged or destroyed.  One orchard had 1200 trees destroyed over 10 acres.  The Maquon Fire Department also lost its roof.
  16. 4/30/1997:  This tornado moved in from northeast Fulton County, having developed in Fairview.  It took an intermittent path across Knox County before moving into Peoria County.  A grain bin was destroyed and several buildings damaged southwest of Yates City.
  17. 5/18/1997:  Brief touchdown 8 miles west-southwest of Yates City, causing no damage.
  18. 8/3/1997:  Touched down on the south side of Lake Calhoun, blowing down 25-30 trees.
  19. 4/29/1998:  Touched down 4 miles southwest of Williamsfield and moved east 3 miles.  Several outbuildings were destroyed, and a few homes were damaged when trees fell onto them.
  20. 4/22/1999:  Brief touchdown 1.5 miles southwest of Appleton; no damage reported.
  21. 9/11/2000:  Touchdown 2.5 miles northeast of St. Augustine, and was on the ground for 1 mile.  No damage reported.
  22. 4/30/2003:  Touched down 6 miles northeast of Victoria, and was on the ground for 1 mile.  No damage reported.
  23. 4/20/2004:  Touched down 3 miles northeast of Victoria, and was on the ground for 3 miles.  One farm building was destroyed, and 2 others were damaged.
  24. 6/8/2005:  Brief touchdown 2 miles south of Henderson, damaging part of an outbuilding.
  25. 6/5/2010:  Brief touchdown 3 miles northeast of Abingdon, causing minor crop damage.
  26. 6/5/2010:  This strong tornado touched down 4.5 miles west-northwest of Yates City, then crossed into Peoria County about 1 mile west of Elmwood. In Knox County, the roof was torn off a house, with much of the upper level of the structure severely damaged; an attached garage was also destroyed. Another garage was destroyed, and 7 outbuildings severely damaged, elsewhere along the path.
  27. 5/23/2017:  A landspout tornado briefly touched down in an open field 1 mile north of Maquon.
  28. 5/27/2019:  Brief touchdown in an open field 1.1 miles south of Dahinda.  
  29. 3/28/2020:  Brief touchdown in an open field 1 mile southwest of Oneida.
  30. 6/18/2021:  This tornado was embedded within a large area of wind speeds 70-90 mph in Knox and Fulton Counties. Click here for more details.
