Coastal Threats for the East and Gulf; Record Warmth for the Central U.S.

Persistent onshore flow across the Southeast and portions of the mid-Atlantic will keep the risk of rip currents through the weekend. Rainfall could be locally heavy across Florida, especially along the eastern shoreline. Meanwhile, record warmth for portions of the Plains and Midwest with elevated fire concerns. Widespread Rainfall Across Wisconsin - September 12-14, 2003


Synopsis of event:
After an extended dry period from August into September, that caused Wisconsin to fall into moderate to severe drought conditions, a 3 day rain event brought needed rainfall to much of the state. A very slow moving front stretching north to south across a large part of the U.S. approached the Great Lakes region on Friday, September 12. Rain developed across the western part of the state and spread east during the day. It took until Sunday, September 14 for the front to exit the state. A series of weak low pressure systems that tracked northeast along the front, helped to enhance the rainfall across parts of the state.

The image below shows the general area and amounts of the rainfall. It is possible some areas within the analyzed regions received more or less than what may be indicated.
