For the past few days, we've been highlighting a powerful low pressure system headed for the area, and so far it remains on track.

For Thursday:

Rain showers are possible through the morning.  But, as you can see from the packed pressure lines, the wind will increase quickly out of the west.  A wind advisory is in effect for 6 am to 6 pm Thursday. West winds will likely be in the 20 to 30 mph range, with a few gusts possibly reaching 40 to 45 mph, especially south of Milwaukee and Madison.  Winds this strong can make driving difficult and can blow patio furniture and cause some tree branches to come down. These westerly winds will also usher in a much cooler airmass. Highs on Friday will likely be held down in the lower 40s.

Wind Advisory in effect!

This system will be too warm to bring a threat for any snow over southern Wisconsin.  Northern Wisconsin could see a few inches of snow Thursday night into Friday as colder air arrives along with a secondary trough of low pressure.
