Dangerous, Record-Breaking Heat to Continue in the Central and Eastern U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms in the Upper Midwest; Critical Fire Weather in the Four Corners

Dangerous, record-breaking heat will continue across most of the central and eastern U.S this week. Heat indices will exceed 100 degrees. The atmosphere was primed with warm, humid and unstable air in southern Wisconsin on Sunday.  A cold front tracking south through Wisconsin triggered numerous thunderstorms across the state.  Many thunderstorms produced large hail and damaging winds. The storms were mainly confined to eastern portions of the forecast area. Below is a loop of radar images showing the progression of storms across the area.

Most of the severe thunderstorms reports Sunday were that of large hail, though there were a few reports of wind damage. Below is a map of storm reports received through 10 pm Sunday. Here is link to browse through the lastest Local Storm Reports.

All severe storm reports as of 3:00 pm on the 5th. The numbers indicate the size of the hail.
