Coastal Threats for the East and Gulf; Record Warmth for the Central U.S.

Persistent onshore flow across the Southeast and portions of the mid-Atlantic will keep the risk of rip currents through the weekend. Rainfall could be locally heavy across Florida, especially along the eastern shoreline. Meanwhile, record warmth for portions of the Plains and Midwest with elevated fire concerns. Please join us in welcoming Ben Schott to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee!  He has been selected at the new Meteorologist in Charge and will be starting at the office the week of August 8th, 2016.  Ben is currently the Meteorologist in Charge at the NWS in Binghamton, NY.  Previously, he held the position of Warning Coordination Meteorologist at both Memphis, TN and in Great Falls, MT.  He worked as a Lead Forecaster at WFO Northern Indiana; and a General Forecaster at both Louisville, KY and Morristown, TN.  Benjamin worked two years at KOMO-TV in Seattle, WA producing the weather.  He is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served for just under six years as a weather and oceanographic observer and forecaster.  Benjamin attended Purdue University and the University in Washington in Seattle and is originally from northern Indiana.
