Heat and Fire Weather Concerns in the West; Excessive Rainfall Possible in the South-Central U.S.

Heat will build over the Intermountain West and the Southwest the next couple of days. Lightning from dry thunderstorms can create new fire starts and combined with gusty winds may cause a fire to rapidly grow in Oregon and northern California. Due to the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms today, the Routine Weekly Test of NOAA All-Hazards radio is postponed until tomorrow, Thursday, March 20th around noon.

Also, there will be maintenance to the Madison NOAA Weather Radio transmitter (WXJ-87, 162.550mhz, Channel 7) early on Friday morning between midnight and 6am. The transmitter will be down during this time. Alternative nearby weather radio stations to use during this time are:
