January 2026 Climate Summary

Warmest Januarys on Record

High pressure over the Desert Southwest will continue to bring well-above normal temperatures into early next week, with afternoon highs 8-14 degrees above normal, and dry conditions.

A pattern change is likely to occur before the middle of the month, which could reintroduce rain chances to portions of the Desert Southwest. The latest CPC 6-10 day outlook indicates 60-70% probabilities for above normal precipitation late next week into the following weekend.

January 2026 was a warm and dry one, with all three of our climate sites seeing above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.

This year two of our climate sites finished in the top five warmest Januarys on record for their respective sites. January 2026 finished as the 4th warmest January on record for Phoenix. Then for El Centro, January 2026 finished tied for the 5th warmest January on record.
