Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. The Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Pueblo conducted a damage survey Sunday evening in the area of Walsh Colorado, here are the preliminary results of this survey...

Sunday afternoon, three landspouts occurred southwest of Walsh, and one mesocyclone tornado occurred northwest of Walsh, with EF1 damage and winds estimated to have been around 100 mph.  In the area around 3 miles northwest of Walsh, straight-line winds downed power poles in a three-quarter mile long area, and caused damage to crop irrigation systems in a half-mile long stretch.  Large hail, up to the size of softballs, also caused a lot of damage in the Walsh area.
