September of 2025 continued the previous few months weather pattern of a meandering ridge of high pressure across the Rockies, which brought periods of warm and dry conditions, as well as cooler and wetter periods. There were also periods of severe weather and heavy rainfall across portions of south central and southeast Colorado. For the month as a whole, at to slightly above normal temperatures were experienced across south central and southeast Colorado, save for pockets of below normal temperatures across the southeast plains into the San Luis Valley. As for precipitation, near normal to above normal amounts were generally experienced across the region.  

The following graphics depict monthly temperature and precipitation departures from normal across the state for the past month of September.

 

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of September was 55.2 degrees. This is 0.7 degrees below normal and makes September of 2025 tied as the 44th coldest September on record. This remains well above the coldest September of 2006, when the average September temperature was 51.2 degrees. The average September maximum temperature in Alamosa was 73.3 degrees, which is 1.1 degrees below normal. The average September minimum temperature in Alamosa was 37.1 degrees, which is 0.2 degrees below normal.  Alamosa recorded 1.02 inches of precipitation through the month of September. This is 0.04 inches above normal and makes September of 2025 tied as the 37th wettest September on record. This is remains well below the wettest September of 2013 when 2.98 inches of precipitation was recorded in Alamosa.  (ALS POR: 1932-2024   

 

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of September was 62.5 degrees. This is 0.5 degrees below normal but still makes September of 2025 tied as the 40th warmest September on record. This remains well behind the warmest September of 2019, when the average September temperature was 68.7 degrees. The September average maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 75.9 degrees, which is 1.2 degrees below normal. The average September minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 49.2 degrees, which is 0.3 degrees above normal. Colorado Springs recorded 0.92 inches of precipitation through the month of September. This is 0.43 inches below normal and makes September of 2025 tied as the 65th driest September on record. This remains well ahead of the driest September of 1919 and 1953,  when only a trace of precipitation was recorded in Colorado Springs.     (COS POR: 1894-2024)      

 

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of September was 67.3 degrees. This is 0.7 degrees above normal and makes September of 2025 tied as the 37th warmest September on record. This remains well behind the warmest September of 2019, when the average September temperature was 72.8 degrees. The average September maximum temperature in Pueblo was 83.2 degrees, which is 0.1 degrees above normal. The average September minimum temperature in Pueblo was 51.3 degrees, which is 1.2 degrees above normal. Pueblo recorded 0.37 inches of precipitation through the month of September. This is 0.28 inches below normal and makes September of 2025 the 48th driest September on record. This remains ahead of the driest September's of 1892, 1916 and 1956 when only a trace of precipitation was recorded in Pueblo.  (PUB POR: 1888-2024)  

 

Looking ahead into October in Alamosa, the average high and low temperatures of 69 degrees and 31 degrees on October 1st, cool to 57 degrees and 19 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of October in Alamosa is 43.8 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.65 inches of precipitation and 2.2 inches of snow through the month of October.           

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperatures of 71 degrees and 43 degrees on October 1st, cool to 59 degrees and 31 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of October in Colorado Springs is 50.7 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 0.77 inches of precipitation and 2.5 inches of snow through the month of October. On average, Colorado Springs sees its first freeze of the fall on October 1st.         

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperatures of 77 degrees and 43 degrees on October 1st, cool to 63 degrees and 30 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of October in Pueblo is 52.8 degrees. Pueblo averages 0.76 inches of precipitation and 1.9 inches of snow through the month of October.
