August Weather Review

August of 2026 started out where July left off, hot and dry across south central and southeast Colorado, with Alamosa's 10 consecutive days of 90F temperatures to start the month being the 2nd longest streak of 90+ temperatures on record, just behind a 13 straight day streak in July of 2003.  Pueblo also set a new record high temperature for the month of August on the 3rd, when the temperature hit 107F, besting the previous August record high temperature of 105F set on August 2, 2008. Monsoonal moisture worked its way into the region through the middle and end of the month, bringing some cooler temperatures and spotty beneficial moisture across the southeast plains.

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of August was 67.5 degrees. This is 4.3 degrees above normal and makes August of 2026 the  warmest August on record in Alamosa, well ahead of the previous warmest August of 2024,  when the average temperature was 66.1 degrees. The average August maximum temperature in Alamosa was 87.3 degrees, which is 6.8 degrees above normal.  The average August minimum temperature in Alamosa was 47.5 degrees, which is 1.8 degrees above normal.  Alamosa recorded 0.18 inches of precipitation through the month of August. This is 1.11 inches below normal and makes August of 2026 the 3rd driest August on record.  (ALS POR: 1932-2026)    

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of August was 73.8 degrees. This is 3.7F above normal and makes August of 2026 the 4th warmest August on record, still behind the warmest August of 2011 when the average temperature was 74.1F.  The average August maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 88.5 degrees, which is 4.9 degrees above normal. The average August minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 59.0 degrees, which is 1.9 degrees above normal. Colorado Springs recorded 1.09 inches of precipitation throughout the month of August. This is 1.87 inches below normal and makes August of 2026 tied with 1911 as the 20th driest August on record.  (COS POR: 1895-2026)    

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of August was 77.6 degrees. This is 2.8 degrees above normal and makes August of 2026 the 8th warmest August on record in Pueblo, well behind the warmest July of 1970, when the average temperature was 79.8F. The average August maximum temperature in Pueblo was 94.1  degrees, which is 3.9 degrees above normal. The average August minimum temperature in Pueblo was 61.2 degrees, which is 1.8 degrees above normal. Pueblo recorded 2.17 inches of precipitation in through out the month of August. This is 0.06 inches above normal and makes August of 2026 the 51th wettest August on record.     (PUB POR: 1888-2026)  

Looking ahead into September in Alamosa, the average high and low temperatures of 78 degrees and 42 degrees on September 1st, cool to 70 degrees and 32 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of September in Alamosa is 55.9 degrees.  Alamosa averages 0.98 inches of precipitation and 0.5 inches of snow through the month of September.  On average,  Alamosa can see the 1st freeze of the season by September 9th.           

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperatures of 81 degrees and 54 degrees on September 1st, cool to 72 degrees and 43 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of September in Colorado Springs is 63.0 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 1.35 inches of precipitation and 0.2 inches of snow through the month of September.           

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperatures of 88 degrees and 56 degrees on September 1st, cool to 77 degrees and 43 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of September in Pueblo is 66.6 degrees. Pueblo averages 0.65 inches of precipitation and 0.2 inches of snow through the month of September.
