July Weather Review

July  of 2026 started out generally warm and dry across south central and southeast Colorado, with a few passing weather systems across the High Plains bringing scattered severe storms across the southeast plains.  Smoke from area wildfires was also prevalent across much of the region throughout the beginning of July.  Upper level high pressure built into the Rockies through the middle of the month, bringing very warm and record breaking temperatures through the end of the month, especially across the southeast plains, where temperatures soared above the century mark for an 9 day consecutive stretch, topping out on July 26th, when the Lamar Airport (KLAA) hit 111 degrees,  just one degree shy of its all time record high temperature of 112F, set on June 27th, 2012. While the plains were baking, monsoonal moisture worked into western Colorado through the middle of the month, bringing periods of heavy rain from slowly moving showers and storms. The monsoon moisture did slowly work into eastern Colorado through the end of the month, bringing a few days of heavy rain across the plains, though it did also lead to extensive flash flooding across the Aspen Acres burn area of western Pueblo and Custer counties.

The preliminary average temperature in Alamosa for the past month of July was 68.0 degrees. This is 2.7 degrees above normal and makes July of 2026 the 4th warmest July on record in Alamosa, just behind the warmest July of 2011,  when the average temperature was 68.4 degrees. The average July maximum temperature in Alamosa was 87.7 degrees, which is 4.4 degrees above normal.  The average July minimum temperature in Alamosa was 48.2 degrees, which is 0.9 degrees above normal.  Alamosa recorded 0.48 inches of precipitation through the month of July. This is 0.56 inches below normal and makes July of 2026 tied as the17th driest July on record.  (ALS POR: 1932-2026)    

The preliminary average temperature in Colorado Springs for the past month of July was 74.5 degrees. This is 2.1F above normal and makes July of 2026 the 8th warmest July on record. This remains behind the warmest July of 2003 when the average temperature was  75.8F.  The average July maximum temperature in Colorado Springs was 89.8 degrees, which is 3.3 degrees above normal. The average July minimum temperature in Colorado Springs was 59.2 degrees, which is 1.0 degrees above normal. Colorado Springs recorded 1.46 inches of precipitation throughout the month of July. This is 1.66 inches below normal and makes July of 2026 the 22nd driest July on record.  (COS POR: 1895-2026)    

The preliminary average temperature in Pueblo for the past month of July was 79.9 degrees. This is 2.7 degrees above normal and makes July of 2026 tied as the 7th warmest July on record in Pueblo, well behind the warmest July of 2003, when the average temperature was 81.2F. The average July maximum temperature in Pueblo was 96.7  degrees, which is 4.3 degrees above normal. The average July minimum temperature in Pueblo was 63.1 degrees, which is 2.1 degrees above normal. Pueblo recorded 1.43 inches of precipitation in through out the month of July. This is 0.46 inches below normal and makes July of 2026 the 58th driest July on record.     (PUB POR: 1888-2026)  

Looking ahead into August in Alamosa, the average high and low temperatures of 82 degrees and 48 degrees on August 1st, cool to 79 degrees and 43 degrees by the end of the month.  The average temperature for the month of August in Alamosa is 63.2 degrees.  Alamosa averages 1.29 inches of precipitation through the month of August.  On average,  August is the wettest month of the year in Alamosa.           

In Colorado Springs, the average high and low temperatures of 86 degrees and 59 degrees on August 1st, cool to 82 degrees and 54 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of August in Colorado Springs is 70.1 degrees.  Colorado Springs averages 2.96 inches of precipitation through the month of August.  On average, August is the 2nd wettest month of the year in Colorado Springs.         

In Pueblo, the average high and low temperatures of 92 degrees and 62 degrees on August 1st, cool to 88 degrees and 56 degrees by the end of the month. The average temperature for the month of August in Pueblo is 74.8 degrees. Pueblo averages 2.11 inches of precipitation through the month of August.  On average, August is the wettest month of the year in Pueblo.
