Storm Systems to Impact the Central and Eastern U.S. Through the Weekend

Two storm systems will track through the central and eastern U.S. today through this weekend with areas of gusty winds, rain and heavy snow. Severe thunderstorms and heavy to excessive rainfall is forecast today from the Lower Mississippi River Valley to the Tennessee Valley. The NWS Weather Forecast Office in Tulsa and the Arkansas-Red Basin River Forecast Center will begin providing daily river forecasts for the Verdigris River near Claremore, OK and near Inola, OK, effective November 1, 2016.

Forecasts are currently only produced for this stretch of the Verdigris River when flooding is expected or occurring.  Starting November 1, a forecast will be issued once daily in the morning, with more forecasts issued throughout the day during times of flooding.  No new action is required by users to receive the daily forecasts.  This change will help maintain safe operations along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System between Oologah Lake and the Newt-Graham Lock and Dam 18.
