Wind and Rain in the Northeast; Atmospheric River to Impact the West

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through today with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is then expected to move into the Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall and flooding, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. The NWS Weather Forecast Office in Tulsa and the Arkansas-Red Basin River Forecast Center will begin providing daily river forecasts for the Verdigris River near Claremore, OK and near Inola, OK, effective November 1, 2016.

Forecasts are currently only produced for this stretch of the Verdigris River when flooding is expected or occurring.  Starting November 1, a forecast will be issued once daily in the morning, with more forecasts issued throughout the day during times of flooding.  No new action is required by users to receive the daily forecasts.  This change will help maintain safe operations along the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System between Oologah Lake and the Newt-Graham Lock and Dam 18.
