Call for papers

The Fifteenth Northeast Regional Operational Workshop (NROW) will be held Wednesday 12 November and Thursday 13 November 2014 at the Nanfab South Auditorium, on the University at Albany Campus, 255 Fuller Road, Albany, New York.  The workshop will be co-sponsored by the National Weather Service Office at Albany, New York, and the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (DAES), University at Albany.  The American Meteorological Society is a cooperating organization.              

                    

Papers are welcome on all aspects of Northeast United States and Southeast Canadian operational weather forecasting and should focus on the topics listed.  Sessions will focus on, northeast coastal storms, terrain effects, heavy precipitation forecasting, hydrology, northeast severe storms, lake effect, use of high-resolution model data, mesoscale modeling, decision support techniques, enhancement of the digital forecast process, CSTAR funded research, and the integration of new technology into operations.  Presentations will only be given in oral form. Conference presentations are preferred in person, but digital presentation and participation will be available via GoTo Meeting.

 

Presenters should submit a one page abstract in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman 12 point font.  Abstracts that are in other fonts or formats will be returned.  Presenters will be expected to upload their complete presentation to the designated website no later than 9am EST Monday 3 November 2014.  Website login information for the upload of presentations will be provided to presenters after the abstract deadline in late October 2014.  Presentations must be in Microsoft Powerpoint.  Conference presentations will be limited to 40.  The Steering Committee reserves the right to decline abstracts that do not address conference foci.

    

No registration fee will be charged, however registration is mandatory online at the conference website.  Registration will open 1 August 2014, and must be completed by 9pm EST, Monday 3 November 2014.  The deadline for submission of abstracts is 4pm EDT Tuesday, 21 October 2014.  Abstracts should be submitted electronically as email attachments.  Questions should be sent to NROW Steering Committee, c/o Warren R. There is no official hotel for NROW XV due to changes in government travel regulations. Crestview Suites is the closest to CESTM, and  has been used in the past. They accept the government rate with appropriate government ID.  The information link to them is below.

OFFICE LOCATION: The office is in Suite B300 on the third floor of the Center for Emerging Sciences and Technology Management (CESTM) building. CESTM is on the campus of the University at Albany, one of the four major centers of the State University of New York (SUNY).

From I-90, Exit 2 - Fuller Road: Follow Fuller Road one block south of Washington Avenue to traffic circle at Tri-Centennial Drive and bear right onto Tri-Centennial Drive West. Stay on Tri-Centennial and follow signs for F Lot.

From the Albany Airport: Exit the airport following the signs to Interstate-87.  Head south on I-87 (Northway).  Take I-87 south until it ends and turn to the left onto Route 20 (Western Avenue).  Travel a short distance past Stuyvesant Plaza and take a left at the light onto Fuller Road. At the traffic circle follow signs for Tri-Centennial Drive West. Stay on Tri-Centennial and follow signs for F Lot.
