Overview

Thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front in the early and mid-afternoon hours of Monday, June 9, 2025, aided by a potent shortwave trough moving northeast across the Ohio Valley. A high-shear, low CAPE environment was in place with bulk shear values of 40 to 50 knots coupled with MLCAPE of 500 to 1000 J/kg. Three tornadoes resulted from these thunderstorms, with the strongest being an EF-2 across Eastern Erie County, PA, with estimated peak winds of 115 mph. The other two tornadoes included an EF-1 near Lake Buckhorn in Holmes County, OH, with peak winds of 105 mph and an EF-0 near Canadohta Lake in Crawford County, PA, with peak winds of 70 mph.
