Overview
A strong low pressure system moved northeast across the Midwest into the Great Lakes region, resulting in a line of severe thunderstorms that caused widespread wind damage. In addition to the widespread 60 to 70 mph wind gusts associated with the line, several significant wind gusts were also observed, including an 81 mph gust reported at the Lorain County Regional Airport (KLPR). Several weak and brief tornadoes also occurred within the line of storms, with damage surveys confirming two EF-0 tornadoes in Ottawa County and one EF-1 tornado with wind speeds up to 100 mph in Huron and Lorain Counties. |

Figure 1: Shear vectors overlaid with Mixed-layer CAPE (MLCAPE) from 4 PM to 11 PM EDT on June 18, 2025. Note the corridor of 1500 to 2000 J/kg of MLCAPE with 35 to 40 knots of effective shear across northern Ohio. | Figure 2: Downdraft cape (DCAPE) from 4 PM to 11 PM EDT on June 18, 2025. Note the most favorable DCAPE values near 1000 J/jg ahead of the line of storms across northern Ohio. | Figure 3: Most unstable CAPE (MUCAPE), theta-e difference (shaded), and 0-3 km shear vectors from 4 PM to 11 PM EDT on June 18, 2025. The shear vectors turn a blue color when they are 30 knots or greater. Note the favorable orientation of the vectors (~W to E) with respect to the line (~N to S) for brief tornadic spin-ups. |
